Advanced Manufacturing Center focused on five emerging trends
The Advanced Manufacturing Center’s (AMC), presented by Gardner Business Media and titled, "Manufacturing’s Solutions Network," will focus on the five trends and technologies that are moving manufacturing forward. Displays and presentations will explore presentations and topics on:
The additive manufacturing process that "grows" or "prints" functional parts through the process that adds one precise layer at a time. This technology makes it possible for manufacturers to economically produce complex components in quantities that would be too small to justify die or mold tooling or produce geometric features such as internal honeycomb structures or curving channels that would be impossible to create any other way. The display by Linear Mold & Engineering / Oak Ridge National Laboratory and the technical presentation by Greg Morris of GE Aviation will allow visitors to learn how to take advantage of the opportunities that additive manufacturing can provide.
Automation that increases the value of an individual employee rather than being a replacement by freeing this person to focus attention on the work that requires human knowledge or human judgment. The display and presentation is by Rethink Robotics—in partnership with Industrial Automation North America and Motion, Drives, Automation North America.
Automotive 2025 is intended to raise fuel economy standards to an equivalent of 54.5 mpg by 2025 for cars and trucks. A display incorporating a General Motors Silverado body and a presentation by Ron Krupitzer of the Steel Market Development will share insights on moving to structures that are strong, light, and capable.
The results of the fourth edition of Modern Machine Shop’s Top Shops benchmarking survey. Results from this year’s survey will be presented at the AMC with Top Shops Honors Program winners being announced for the survey’s four main categories: machining equipment, shop floor practices, business strategy and human resources. Representatives from those four shops will be on hand to participate in a presentation, as well as a Q&A with visitors.
Data-driven manufacturing implies that decisions controlling the manufacturing process should be based on facts, not guesses, wishes, theories or opinions. An exhibit provided by ITAMCO "Google Glass & MTConnect"/XOEye and a presentation by Dean Bartles of the Digital Manufacturing & Design Innovation Institute will teach how emerging technology is enabling both people and equipment to collect and process the facts they need to achieve better results.
