What Makes Kyle an Engineering Leader

Kyle exemplifies leadership qualities, both technically and in leading people. He has an incredible work ethic and a passion for making a positive contribution to the manufacturing industry. No matter what industry he contracts for—pharma, brewing, dairy, food and beverage, household goods, etc.—he strives to design and implement solutions to the highest standard possible. Kyle is also passionate about being the best coach and mentor, putting forth extra effort to put others before himself. He is a champion for Malisko’s core values and models these daily. Kyle’s infectious can-do attitude, commitment to quality, and keen sense of doing the right thing make him a valuable leader. He shares knowledge, coaches, and mentors his direct reports as a Team Leader, but his influence extends throughout the entire company and among customers.

Achievements, Advancements & Career-related Industry Contributions

Kyle has been with Malisko for 19 years, starting as a controls integrator. Throughout his tenure, he has been promoted to Senior Engineer, Lead Engineer, Project Manager, and Manager for senior engineers in the Denver office. He currently serves as a Team Leader with direct reports. Kyle took a leap of faith many years ago by taking on the role of a dedicated program manager, leading multi-year projects and resources for a key customer. He built trust with that customer over the years and successfully navigated the transition from technical delivery to project management and commercial delivery. Through this development, Kyle found a passion for all things project management, but more importantly, he thrived as a leader of people on projects. Since then, Kyle has helped solidify Malisko’s project execution process and has been leading the implementation of a project management software suite at Malisko.

As a technical leader, Kyle has led Malisko’s Electrical “Pillar” group, focusing on best practices for panel builds, computer-aided design (CAD), and other process electrical topics. He has also developed expertise in validation protocols and GAMP5 implementations, mentoring junior engineers on these advanced topics. Most recently, Kyle expanded his technical leadership by taking on industrial network infrastructure projects, leading plant floor device audits, and infrastructure planning for large brownfield operational technology (OT) network implementations. Kyle has created or assisted in creating standards for multiple industrial manufacturing clients across several disciplines, including human-machine interface/programmable logic controller (PLC) architecture and programming, electrical design/CAD, IO/communication specifications, process design documentation, validation protocols/GAMP5 implementation, and informational technology (IT)/OT network design.

Non-work-related Activities & Hobbies

Kyle is a man for others. He is active in helping maintain his in-law’s family farm. He loves the outdoors and preserving the idea of living off the land. The farm harvests hay for dairy cattle and raises chickens, goats, sheep, cows, and a pony. Every Christmas, Kyle and his wife choose a few families to help for the holidays as a way to give back to the community. This past year, they chose three families to provide gifts for. Kyle also supplied and replaced flooring and fixed electrical and HVAC issues for a family with a child who has special medical needs to ensure the house was safe for their family.

Interesting Details

Going into college, Kyle wanted to be an electrical lineman and never wanted to work in an office or with computers. Kyle originally hails from Illinois but has lived for extended periods in Texas and Missouri. He now resides in New Mexico with his family and was one of Malisko’s first remote workers.

Why Kyle Chose This Career

In college, Kyle really enjoyed and excelled at PLC controls, electrical design, and coding classes. He saw early on that this skill set would offer him a wide range of opportunities to help diverse companies deliver necessary products and services to society. Being a systems integrator for controls integration, he reflects that each project and client offers different challenges and learning opportunities, which is very fulfilling for him. Additionally, the mix of office and field work strikes a good balance for Kyle. The variety of projects and constant learning opportunities keep his work interesting and fulfilling.
