Slim down server maintenance time with new rack attach

Manufacturers adopting liquid immersion cooling for servers are addressing both the benefits and challenges of this approach. The technology provides more effective cooling than traditional fans but introduces maintenance difficulties. Server blades are tightly packed in liquid coolant, making it harder to remove a single blade for service.

During maintenance, screws can be misplaced inside the enclosure, and handling heavy, liquid-covered hardware can increase the risk of equipment damage and downtime. To address these issues, Southco developed the RA Rack Attach.

The Southco’s RA Rack Attach replaces traditional screws that secure a server blade to a rack. The screws attach the device to the blade, while an integrated pawl secures the blade to the rack. When a technician presses the integrated trigger on the handle, the pawl retracts, allowing the blade to be released and lifted in one motion. This design eliminates loose screws and provides a more secure grip for technicians.

At only 7 mm thick, the RA Rack Attach requires minimal space but can support up to 50 kg due to its steel construction. The handle offers an ergonomic grip to assist with safe removal. These features help reduce maintenance time, the risk of hardware damage, and potential technician injury.
