Sheikh Rafik Manihar Ahmed has worked across the oil, gas and petrochemical industries, supporting instrumentation engineering across all phases of execution. As Fluor’s New Delhi office Innovation Catalyst, he leads a team of colleagues in developing innovations to improve project execution. Deeply involved in the field of plant digitization, Ahmed has published more than 35+ research papers and books in the fields of instrumentation, robotics and automation. He is an expert in Li-Fi instrument communication networks and has been recognized by the International Society of Automation-Delhi for his work in this field. In addition to his success in the field, Ahmed was honored by 2018 Design Thinking Personality of the Year Award and also a finalist for India’s Innovator Under 35 in 2018. Ahmed also uses his experience to help other such as during a recent visit to a vendor workshop, He had an opportunity to put his safety training and knowledge to use when a short circuit prompted a fire at the hotel where he was staying. Being a certified First Aider and Fluor Floor Warden, he was able to save his own life as well as many others who were staying with him in the same hotel. In June of 2018, Ahmed also saved the life of a fifteen-year-old girl by breaking his Ramadan fast in order to donate his O+ blood platelets for her heart surgery.
Fun Fact: Ahmed chose engineering because he believes it is a path that helps solve complex problems to best impact people’s lives.
