The Allen Bradley Bulletin 193-EC5 E3 Plus solid-stateoverload relay combines current and voltage protection with enhanced powermonitoring and diagnostic capabilities for safeguarding critical electric motorloads. The new overload relay is designed for low voltage applications inmaterial handling, water/wastewater, process, petrochemical and minerals andmining. The ability to provide current, voltage and power-quality informationof a specific motor helps speed troubleshooting, minimize downtime and reduceenergy costs.

The overload relay identifies motors contributing to themonthly peak demand and power factor line items on utility bills andcommunicates this and diagnostic information using DeviceNet and RSEnergyMetrixsoftware. It also assists in activity-based cost accounting and verifyingenergy-reduction initiatives. In addition, the overload relay is equipped withAllen Bradley DeviceLogix Intelligent Component Technology, which integrateslogic-solving capability into the overload relay. This provides users with basicdigital control when a programmable controller is not available. It also can beused to turn off a motor in the event of lost communications within a controlsystem.
The relay also helps protect against voltage issues such asunder voltage, voltage unbalance, phase loss, frequency and phase rotationbefore the contactor coil is energized. While the motor is powering a load, theoverload relay protects the motor based on excessive real power, reactivepower, apparent power and power factor. The relay accommodates currents rangingfrom 0.4 A to 860 A, as well as currents up to 5,000 A using external currenttransformers.
