The steute business division Controltec has expanded its range of wireless foot switches to include a version designed for heavy-duty environments such as welding stations. In these settings, wireless foot switches are well-suited because cabled versions may fail if weld spatter damages the cables, and cables can obstruct the workspace during routine operations.
Conventional foot switches may not meet the requirements in this environment because their protective shields often do not accommodate reinforced safety footwear, and operators need enough space to operate the pedals without obstruction.
For heavy-duty applications, steute has developed a larger protective shield made of powder-coated steel. The shield is attached to the wireless foot switch and provides sufficient clearance to operate both pedals while wearing reinforced safety footwear. It also helps prevent unintentional pedal activation. A carrying handle allows the foot switch to be repositioned as needed.
An RF GFS 2 XL wireless transmitter is integrated into the protective shield, positioned to reduce exposure to mechanical impact and to support consistent signal transmission to the receiver antenna. The sWave wireless technology used supports indoor ranges up to 45 meters in typical industrial environments. The RF GFS 2 XL is among the initial products to incorporate the SW2.4LE-IND wireless technology in serial production.
The new wireless foot switch was initially developed for a manufacturer of welded structures. After being tested in that application, it is now offered as part of steute’s standard wireless switching product line.
