Annual Survey of Purchasing Decision Makers included respondents from 600 U.S. companies and from four broad industry sectors, including construction and manufacturing.

Here are several key findings:

– While purchasers agree that purchasing supplies from business-to-business distributors offers advantages over purchasing from retail outlets, retail shopping is still the most common practice, cited by 76% of the respondents

– In the next 1 to 2 yr, 25% of purchasers plan to institute or increase use of the Internet for purchasing operating supplies

– Among purchasers who contract with an outside vendor for materials, 98% are satisfied with their integrated supply arrangements as a strategy to reduce operating costs.
