IRIS electric motors with inverter-rated insulation systems withstand the voltage spikes that result from the use of IGBT-type pulse width modulated inverters. The system for three-phase motors 1 hp and larger, plus other ac motors in adjustable speed drive systems, includes specially formed phase insulation, cushioned and sleeved connections, and stators dipped in high-temperature varnish.
