Another view: Indiana touts opportunities even as plant closes

Job loss at Wakarusa plant and others in the region hurt, but state officials, others see hope

The closing of a plant in Wakarusa, IN and in two other neighboring cities will displace 1,400 workers. While they face an uncertain future, state officials are touting incoming jobs to the region and the opoportunity to retrain for some of the new jobs in manufacturing, accoridng to the South Bend Tribune . State and workforce development officials say the willingness of displaced workers to be flexible and to seek education to prepare them for new jobs opening in the region are key factors in how long it may take to find new employment.
