Why Sean is an Engineering Leader

Since Sean Phillips joined the team at Hargrove, he has shown excellent growth and leadership abilities. He quickly moved to an engineering lead position and began leading projects within only two years of graduation. His aptitude for learning and improving processes has made him highly successful in this role. Since then, he has transitioned into project management and has exceled. Being a leader is not only knowing what must be done but also having the soft skills to move a team in that direction. Sean naturally has these skills and has been a very well-respected upcoming leader in the organization.

Achievements, Advancement & Career-related Industry Contributions

Sean worked in residential construction through college prior to starting his career in control systems engineering in 2014 when he began as a co-op and worked his way up to Technical Lead and then Project Manager. Throughout these roles he has led several successful projects in the specialty chemical and pulp and paper industries. Most recently, Sean has earned his Project Management Certification and Professional Engineering licensure.

Non-work-related Activities & Hobbies

Sean stays busy with many different hobbies, including golf, playing music and restoring his ’78 Camaro. He gravitates towards these activities because they “all require great discipline and pay off with enormous gratification over time.”

Interesting Details

Outside of Hargrove, Sean was part of a college team that designed and built a robot to track Olympic swimmers through the water to analyze their movements.

Sean spends a lot of his recent free time remodeling his historic home.

Sean believes the consulting world is adventurous on its own, but when you throw controls into the mix, no two days are the same.
