Dylan has played a large part in improving quality and standards at Interstates. He constantly looks at ways to improve systems, think outside the box and deliver projects. He currently leads a diverse team in multiple locations.
Achievements, Advancement & Career-related Industry Contributions
Dylan started with Interstates in 2011 and joined the controls group as an entry-level programmer. He quickly progressed through control systems developer positions, eager to learn and grow. He became a go-to person for complex HMI issues and design while working on various projects in the milling industry. Dylan became a Lead Control Systems Analyst in 2018 and has shown remarkable agility in leading different teams and projects. Dylan recently has taken a role with added responsibilities, including resourcing and people management inside Plant Floor Automation. Recently, he has worked documenting critical safety devices and creating standard testing plans, primarily for feed milling clients. Dylan has been a professional mentor to other programmers at Interstates since 2019 and a part of the standards committee since early 2021.
Non-work-related Activities & Hobbies
Dylan loves smoking meat and other random food! Since having children, he gets to spend more time at home, which has allowed him to hone his BBQ skills. He loves spending time perfecting brisket, pork butt, ribs, chicken, pork belly, prime rib, beans, macaroni and cheese, and even pizza! Since his first smoker, he has upgraded to a PID controller and increased his smoking surface area.
Dylan is a loyal Iowa State fan supporting his Alma mater. He enjoys spending time before football games around the grill. He’s shown his dedication by attending five bowl games since his senior year in 2009. Also, he has been to five Big 12 tournaments in Kansas City and thoroughly enjoyed KC BBQ.
Dylan enjoys international travel and has made a few trips to Europe as well as numerous trips to Mexico and the Caribbean. He has taken part in German Oktoberfest twice, but Norway and Italy are his favorites!
Why Dylan chose this career
From a young age, Dylan always loved building things with Technic LEGO sets and progressed into some basic programming with LEGO Mindstorms. This combined with his father being an electrician, he found his love for electrical engineering and programming. Dylan got introduced to automation as a senior at Iowa State and Interstates has allowed him to continue his dreams of building, programming and seeing things come to life!
