2013 Workforce Development Study

This study was conducted by Plant Engineering to better understand the prevailing attitudes among readers about hiring and training employees in the manufacturing industries. The fundamental problem remains acute, as 59% of plant managers reported a skilled workforce shortage in their plant. Because of a shortage of skilled workers, there are at least 5% of the jobs unfilled in 61% of the plants, according to the report. In addition, 22% of the plants said more than 10% of jobs are unfilled for the same reason.

The sample was selected from recipients of Plant Engineering for whom email addresses were available.
