This month, we take some time to highlight the newest addition to the family of channels presented in Plant Engineering Online (www.plantengineering.com), as well as some news and notes about upcoming online developments.

Plant Management channel

Plant Engineering magazine touts itself as “the problem solving resource for plant engineers.” For many of our readers, the role of “plant engineer” involves a significant amount of plant management responsibilities. While we have strived to meet the information needs of those in management positions in this magazine, with our Management Side of Engineering and Human Side of Engineering columns, we have been a bit slow in giving this area the focused attention it deserves on Plant Engineering Online . Until now, that is.

Last month, we introduced our 18th channel, Plant Management , dedicated solely to the information needs of plant managers. Like the other channels, the Plant Management channel will include training opportunities, related events and web sites, and discussion forum, along with spotlights on various subjects and issues facing plant managers. Related to the spotlight topic — which, in all channels, changes every 2-3 wk — will be a new opinion poll, allowing readers to share their opinions on the plant management issues raised in the accompanying spotlight articles. In addition, we will publish weekly installments from our Human Side of Engineering archives to help plant managers keep on top of labor relations and people-related management issues.

News and notes

Hard to believe it’s been over a year since we conducted the last reader survey for Plant Engineering Online , but then again, we have been very busy reshaping the web site into the resource it is today. We know, however, that there will always be something we can do to better serve our online audience, so be on the lookout for another reader survey later this month. Remember, your feedback plays a large part in what you see and what you can do at Plant Engineering Online.

For those readers who subscribe to our e-mail newsletter, PlantMail! , we are pleased to announce that we will now be delivering the newsletter to you twice a month so we can better inform you of all that is happening and available on Plant Engineering Online . The first issue each month will focus on content related to or supplementing our monthly magazine issue, and the second issue will highlight online-specific content. We’re looking forward to this opportunity to better serve you with this additional insight on what you can find in Plant Engineering Online , and we hope you are too. And for those readers who have not subscribed to PlantMail! , what are you waiting for?

Also in the coming months, we will be stepping up our effort to provide you with links to many more valuable web resources on the internet, available via the “Related Web Sites” section of each channel. So at Plant Engineering Online , if we don’t have what you’re looking for, you can be sure we will, at the least, point you in the right direction.
