When new manufacturing plants are constructed, 3D design techniques have helped take the project from design to operation. But what do you do for an existing plant where the plant’s design is only on paper?

Today’s 3D laser scanning technology allows manufacturers to map existing plant facilities and provide both operations and engineering with a clear understanding of what assets are in place. The technology is becoming more widely utilized, and our next webcast on July 22 will look at how to use 3D scanning technology to improve facility management and operations.

Kurt Yeghian, President of Existing Conditions Surveys Inc. will examine the concepts behind 3D laser scanning, how the new technology is helping to reduce project costs, and how it is increasing productivity.

After attending this presentation, participants will be able to:

  • Describe the benefits of the 3D laser scanning process
  • Describe how 3D laser scanning produces higher quality, accurate drawings
  • Explain how the new 3D technology is reducing project costs and increasing plant productivity and efficiencies
  • Explain why hiring a surveying company is a smart business practice.

Presenters:

  • Brian Ely, Project Director, Existing Conditions Surveys, Inc.
    • Brian Ely has received his Bachelor’s and Master’s Degree from Northeastern University’s architecture program. Prior to joining Existing Conditions Surveys in 2008, Ely was responsible for CAD / Revit management at several local Boston architecture firms including Kallmann McKinnell and Wood Architects. Ely oversees all 3D laser scanning, point cloud data registration and quality control of all 3D Revit models for Existing conditions Surveys Inc. Ely’s duties also include implementing all new technologies and software applications to keep Existing Conditions Surveys, Inc. at the vanguard of all emerging technologies related to Building information modeling and 3D laser scanning.
