In modern industrial systems, there is a large advantage in total cost of ownership when driven equipment, adjustable frequency drives (AFD), motors, and gearboxes are matched and driven at ratings appropriate for these components. Optimization potential includes the initial system costs, system performance capabilities in addition to long term reliability. Operating conditions that need to be evaluated include the speed, voltage, temperature and other environment conditions where the equipment may be used. These factors will impact initial capital cost of the system, operating costs for power consumption, and system flexibility and robustness.

These benefits can be shown to provide enough return on investment to justify a collaborative development efforts between the electrical and mechanical designers of various equipment being provided, thereby providing the most cost effective, highest performance and reliable solutions. This task becomes extremely complex when all components are not provided by one manufacturer and when the end-user who may not have the overall technical experience has to act as a system integrator and communicate all requirements ofvarious manufacturers. Siemens IDS solution will optimize all the components and provide a reliable system and elevate the need for the end user to be knowledgeable in all these components.
