Vanderweil Engineers announces new associate principal

ISPE award-winner Donna DeFreitas brings expertise in laboratories and bio-pharmaceutical facilities to the Boston-based firm.

Boston-based Vanderweil Engineers, a mechanical and electrical consulting engineering firm, has announced that Donna DeFreitas, a mechanical engineer with more than 20 years of experience in building systems design and project management, has joined the firm as an associate principal. DeFreitas has an extensive background in engineering for laboratories, biotechnology, pharmaceutical, and current good manufacturing practice (cGMP) facilities. She will work from Vanderweil’s offices in the New York and Philadelphia regions.

DeFreitas most recently served as senior associate with Genesis Engineers. Her experience also includes management positions with Siemens Building Engineering and the Bio-Pharmaceutical Center of Excellence. She has served the International Society of Pharmaceutical Engineers (ISPE) as president of the Delaware Valley chapter, as a member of the North American education committee, and as a contributor to the society’s Quality Laboratory Baseline Guide. DeFreitas is also a member of the American Association of Laboratory Animal Science, the Association of Energy Engineers, and the U.S. Green Building Council. She is a frequent speaker on trends and best practices in laboratory engineering. DeFreitas is a 2009 recipient of the Buz Lange Award from the ISPE Delaware Valley chapter in recognition of her achievements in innovation, quality, knowledge sharing, and mentoring.
