TRU offers $150K in  earthquake aid

WAYNE, N.J.—Toys R Us is among the many entities pledging support for victims of this week’s massive earthquake in Haiti.

The Toys R Us Children’s Fund will donate $150,000 to help Save the Children in its efforts to provide immediate physical relief from the country’s worst natural disaster in 200 years and meet the emotional needs of children impacted by the event.

“Save the Children is truly thankful for the support offered by the Toys R Us family to launch rapid relief for children and families who had so little even before this crisis,” said Dr. Charles F. MacCormack, president of Save the Children. “We have worked in Haiti for over 20 years and are already responding to the disaster with child-focused efforts based on our first assessments and conditions on the ground.”

Toys R Us Inc. also said that personal donations made by its employees’ to any Haitian relief efforts would be eligible for matching by its corporate matching gifts program.

Separately today, Target Corp. said it would donate $500,000 and more than 1 million meals to Haitian earthquake victims.
