Flowserve vice president Thomas Ferguson has been elected president of the Hydraulic Institute for 2006-2007. He will also serve as a member of the board of directors. Ferguson, an industry veteran and president of Flowserve Pumps, has more than 24 years of experience in the flow control industry, including more than 15 years with Flowserve and one of its predecessor companies, BW/IP International.

The Hydraulic Institute is the largest association of pump producers and suppliers in North America. The Institute serves member companies and end-users by developing comprehensive industry standards, providing education and tools, and operating as a forum for information on pumps and pumping systems.

James Ryan has been named president of industrial distributor Grainger Inc. , in one of a series of personnel moves announced by the company in May.

Ryan, 47, joined Grainger in 1980 in the company’s product management area. He has held many executive positions in the company including the President of the parts business, Chief Information Officer, President of the company’s Internet business, and most recently Group President for the U.S. branch- based business.

“Jim’s 25 years with Grainger in a variety of facets of the business make him ideally suited to lead the business,” said Grainger chairman and CEO Richard L. Keyser.

Grainger also promoted Deb Oler to vice president, sales, making her responsible for driving sales growth in the United States. Kevin Peters has been promoted to senior vice president, supply chain responsible for product availability, transportation, logistics, and supplier relationships.

Schneider Electric has named John Ross as the chief executive officer for Citect , its Australian-based industrial automation software division. Ross has spent the last 18 years in various executive roles with Schneider Electric. ”My key focus will be to continue growing all areas of Citect and enhancing their product portfolio and providing real-time intelligence solutions to the market,” Ross said.

Amelia Huntington has been named president and chief executive officer for lighting solutions company Juno Lighting Group. A senior executive with nearly 20 years of electrical industry and management experience, Huntington has been interim CEO for Juno Lighting Group, a subsidiary of Square D and Schneider Electric, since March 24. She is based at Juno’s corporate offices located in Des Plaines, IL. Prior to joining Juno Lighting Group, Huntington spent 18 years at parent company Schneider Electric.

Annual Salary Survey

Before the calendar turned, 2016 already had the makings of a pivotal year for manufacturing, and for the world.

There were the big events for the year, including the United States as Partner Country at Hannover Messe in April and the 2016 International Manufacturing Technology Show in Chicago in September. There's also the matter of the U.S. presidential elections in November, which promise to shape policy in manufacturing for years to come.

But the year started with global economic turmoil, as a slowdown in Chinese manufacturing triggered a worldwide stock hiccup that sent values plummeting. The continued plunge in world oil prices has resulted in a slowdown in exploration and, by extension, the manufacture of exploration equipment.
