Tow tractors

The AC electric tow tractors, available with 3,300 and 4,000-pound drawbar pull capacities, feature an ac drive system and controller area network communication technology. MOSFET controller technology provides acceleration, top travel speed and smooth speed control. A power-keep function helps maintain battery charge. The tractors use three forms of regeneration to maintain battery performance: an accelerator release system, a shift directional lever and a brake pedal depression system.

Transforming cart

The Trans4mer cart is a four-wheel cart that transforms from a hand-operated pushcart to a towing cart. Users can transform the unit from a push cart to a towing cart by tipping the tow bar down. The cart returns to push cart mode by lifting the tow bar up. When the bar is up, the lead casters lock in place and the rear caster swivel to accommodate hand operation. With the tow bar is down, all the wheels swivel for towing.

Cart

Designed to carry two “daughter” carts and deliver items without uncoupling a train of carts, the hydraulic mother cart is pulled by a tugger and is equipped with a hydraulic system that can lift other carts off of the floor for transport. The hydraulic system receives power from the battery of the tugger.

Fleet management system

The iWarehouse enterprise fleet management system draws real-time information from the operating systems of lift trucks. It allows users to access the information from a Web portal and can generate reports and benchmark truck and operator productivity. The system diagnoses potential lift truck issues remotely. It can be set to limit lift speed and acceleration and alert managers of maintenance issues or impacts, among other traits.

Conveyor cart

The engine block conveyor cart features a roller conveyor deck that transfers engine blocks to an assembly line. The engine block is pushed off the roller conveyor by an electric worm gear. Powered by the battery of the tugger, the cart can carry engine blocks of various weights. It can accommodate up to four engine blocks at a time.

Lift truck checklist

Available for propane and electric counterbalance lift trucks and electric narrow aisle and pallet trucks, the lift truck log contains more than 600 daily checklist forms. Other forms include 24 repair request forms, four accident report forms and four near-miss report forms. A lock-out tag is included for use if the truck becomes unsafe, and a preventive maintenance history can be used to track service. All components reside in a plastic case that attaches to the truck.

Electric hoist

The NER/ER three-phase electric hoist features smart brake technology and dual-speed via an under-the-cover variable-frequency drive. Available in two- and three-step infinitely variable control, the UL-listed hoist has a capacity range from 1/8 to 20 tons. Moter, brake and inverter components are engineered to accommodate low-noise operation. Other features include a nickel-plated load chain, five or six pocket-load sheaves, count hour meters, and low-headroom upper and lower limit switches.

Vacuum pumps

The HeliFlow industrial series positive displacement blowers and vacuum pumps use helical, tri-lobe rotors to lower pulsations to protect downstream instrumentation. Designed for reduced noise levels, the blower is engineered to withstand overhung loads with a limit of 13,500 inch-pounds. The pumps deliver pressure to 15 psig, vacuum to 16-inch Hg and airflow to 3,200 cfm.

Cart

The Corral cart with self-elevating dollies delivers multiple dollies to a work cell without the need to uncouple carts from a train or use of a fork truck. Powered by a set of springs, the dollies automatically raise and lower when items are loaded or unloaded. Designed to carry small totes or boxes, the springs in the cart keep loads at an ergonomic height for the operator. The spring-loaded shelves can be changed to accommodate different weight requirements.

Annual Salary Survey

After two years of economic concerns, manufacturing leaders once again have homed in on the single biggest issue facing their operations:

It's the workers—or more specifically, the lack of workers.

The 2017 Plant Engineering Salary Survey looks at not just what plant managers make, but what they think. As they look across their plants today, plant managers say they don’t have the operational depth to take on the new technologies and new challenges of global manufacturing.
