Siemens is launching a matched package for motion control applications on the market, comprising the Simatic Advanced Controller and the Sinamics servo drive system. The new Simatic S7-1500 T-CPU controller handles the control tasks. It is integrated into the TIA Portal V14 (Totally Integrated Automation), the new version of the Engineering Framework from Siemens. The new Sinamics V90 servo drive system with Profinet brings the required speed and precision into the machine. The new package now enables Simatic users to solve advanced motion control tasks, such as gearing and camming, in a familiar environment. The new S7-1500 T-CPU is also suitable for safety applications, so the user only needs one controller for standard, safety and motion control automation tasks.

The TIA Portal V14 supports users in engineering their motion control tasks, such as electronic gear and cam. The integrated Cam Editor simplifies the configuration and optimization of variable, position-dependent transmission ratios between leading and following axes. The cams can be changed or readjusted for product changes, even while the machine is running. The Cam Editor is very easy to use, even for system-wide diagnostics.

The Sinamics V90 servo drive system is now also available with Profinet, the Ethernet standard for automation. The performance-optimized, user friendly servo drive system comprises a Sinamics V90 servo drive and a Simotics S-1FL6 servomotor that has been enhanced by a new incremental encoder with 21-bit resolution. Different inverter sizes and motor shaft heights cover a wide range of applications for operation in single and three-phase networks. There are eight inverter sizes and seven motor shaft heights with an output ranging from 0.05 to 7.0 kilowatts.

The motors have low moments of inertia to enable diverse motion control tasks to be realized in the widest range of applications, with the focus on dynamic motion and processing—for example positioning, transporting and winding. In addition to operation in the TIA Portal V14 with the new Simatic 1500 T-CPU Advanced Controller, the servo drive system is also suitable for use with the Simatic S7-1500 Advanced Controller and the Simatic S7-1200 Basic Controller.
