Keynote speakers

There are several keynote events scheduled throughout the show.

Monday’s address features Congressman Don Manzullo (R-IL), who chairs both the Small Business Committee as well as the House Manufacturing Caucus. He will discuss the problems facing U.S. manufacturers and offer solutions to help restore manufacturing jobs in America.

On Tuesday morning, Dr. Jeffrey L Bleustein, Chairman of the Board and CEO, Harley-Davidson, Inc., will chronicle the first 100 yr of the great American motorcycle company, from its humble beginnings in Milwaukee, WI, in l903 to becoming the world leader in the manufacture of large-displacement motorcycles.

On Tuesday afternoon, Atsushi (Art) Niimi, President and CEO, Toyota Motor Manufacturing North America, Inc., will give an overview of Toyota’s overall corporate philosophy, called “The Toyota Way,” and detail how these core beliefs guide the company through the ever-challenging climate of today’s automotive manufacturing sector.

Dr. J. Victor Lebacqz, Associate Administrator for Aerospace Technology, NASA, is the featured speaker on Wednesday. Dr. Lebacqz will speak on the R&D issues confronting the nation in aeronautics and space in the 21st century.

The keynote events conclude on Thursday with David Nelson, President, Global Supply Management, Delphi Corporation. The Manufacturing ISM Report On Business and the PMI have earned immense recognition over the years because of the report’s early and accurate reflection of the manufacturing sector of the economy and the PMI’s close correlation with the entire economy. Mr. Nelson, a past president of ISM, will discuss the latest edition of the report and the repercussions for the manufacturing sectors.

Conference highlights

The 2004 program includes general sessions, free sessions, half-day workshops, and more than 180 individual sessions covering six tracks: Plant Engineering & Facilities Management, Design Engineering, Industrial Automation, Enterprise IT, Technology Transfer, and Executive Management.

Title: How Lighting Can Positively Contribute To “Sustainable” Design

Abstract: The session provides an overview of the U.S. Green Building Council’s leadership role in energy and environmental design for green buildings, and the leadership in energy and environmental design (LEED) rating system. It includes a discussion of lighting efficiency; and how low-mercury, energy-efficient, long-life lighting products can assist buildings in achieving LEED certification for green buildings.
