IIoT Series: Part 2: Current Issues and Applications

One (1) Certified Professional Development Hour (PDH) available for all attendees.

The Industrial Internet of Things, otherwise named IIoT, is advancing in industrial environments. It is doing so as part of a digital transformation of the industrial enterprise environment that began in the 1980s. Inevitably, however, foreseen and unforeseen issues have arisen regarding technology, legality, and how we work now.

Engineers, managers, and executives say they’re overwhelmed by the amount of data available to them, yet closer examination finds that these rich data sets may not be sufficiently normalized to yield usable information.
Based on an excess of caution and a failure to explore options, managers cite cybersecurity concerns as exercising a veto over otherwise viable projects. IIoT implies the replacement of proprietary operations technologies originating in the industrial automation space with information technology and open standards. How can operations and information technology departments best work together?

Learning objectives:

  • How IIoT supports industrial computing operations in Cloud and Fog environments
  • Five ways IIoT can be used to improve productivity in operations environments
  • The most common standards, protocols and applications associated with IIoT.

Course Instructors:
Benson Chan, senior partner, Strategy of Things
Ed Kuzemchak, chief technology officer and director, embedded and IoT engineering, Software Design Solutions Inc.
