Jason Gilbert, 36

Project Manager/Process Engineer, Dennis Group, Carlsbad, Calif.

BS Chemistry, University of California

Jason Gilbert is not the typical engineer. He didn’t even get a degree in engineering, instead opting for a bachelor’s in chemistry from the University of California. However, his love for seeing things being built fueled his career switch into engineering. Jason started his career as a construction manager and, since then, he has managed key projects for Dennis Group. One such project was a $70 million greenfield sour cream facility, which was recognized as the company’s safest project of the year. He changed roles, and for the past 5 years he has been project manager, responsible for coordinating all disciplines, developing bid packages and specs, and maintaining budget and schedule on each project. The project he was proudest of overseeing a project manager was a successful fast-track, 8-month, $30 million major expansion at a bakery facility. Jason has a deep love for gardening. He oversees the growth of many fruit trees on his property, and he manages a ½-acre garden year-round. He also loves to work on cars, and was in a pit crew for the Baja 1000.
