Training programs focus on lubrication, MRO, steam boilers
Training is a critical issue for manufacturing, and with training budgets cut for some facilities, industry suppliers and associations are increasingly providing offsite training to help bridge that gap. Among the training sessions being offered around the country are:
The 2013 ExxonMobil Maintenance Symposium will be in Boston April 11-2 to help individuals and companies involved with lubrication, reliability, maintenance and healthy and safety management. The symposiums also count towards recertification for a Certified Lubrication Specialist with STLE (Society of Tribologists and Lubrication Engineers). The MRO Materials and Asset Reliability Symposium will be April 30 through May 2 at the Q Center in St. Charles, Ill., about 40 miles west of Chicago. The symposium will offer insights on integrating MRO with reliability. Among the event speakers are former NFL wide receiver Gene Washington; Shaun Flaharty, North America Maintenance Director at Kraft Foods; Hank Sinclair, CEO of Sinclair Group; and track leaders from IHS, GPAllied, PCA, Sinclair Group, Lauras International, Xtivity, Net Results Group, Allied Reliability, and GP Strategies. Early bird registration closes April 23. To register and for more information, go to http://www.ihs.com/MROReliabilityConference.
Spirax Sarco will conduct its five-day Steam Boiler Operator Training from April 29 to May 3 at Spirax Sarco’s training facility in Blythewood, S.C. Instructor Byron Nichols will cover common boiler auxiliaries and operating techniques. Information will be included on modern boiler water treatment practices, construction and repair methods, waste heat recovery, controls, fuels, and draft. The training manual includes the latest information on instrumentation and PLC controls systems, variable-frequency drives (VFD’s), steam system optimization, reverse osmosis systems, low-NOx burners, and boiler start-up and shutdown procedures. On Friday, May 3, the American Society of Power Engineers (ASOPE) Region 4 will provide Entry Level 3 class thru Chief Engineering Level testing for those who qualify.
