Plant Engineering magazine hasannounced its three winners of the 2007 Top Plant award, presented each year to the manufacturing facilities that demonstrate a commitment to excellence both in terms of production and product.

The 2007 winners are:* Global Engine Manufacturing Alliance (GEMA), Dundee, MI* SEW Eurodrive , Lyman, SC* Spirax Sarco , Blythewood, SC

The Top Plant award recognizes operational excellence through the use of best practices in plant engineering management. This year, the three winners also have something in common, as noted in the December issue of the magazine.

“All three Top Plant winners in 2007 are Lean, green operations,” said Bob Vavra, editor of Plant Engineering. “GEMA, Sew Eurodrive and Spirax Sarco are all committed to environmentally responsible manufacturing, and they’ve maintained and even enhanced profitability.

“This year’s Top Plant winners also use some form of Lean manufacturing to minimize costs and maximize their operation,” said Vavra. “This leads to a reduction of waste in every phase of the operation. Their excellence is the intersection between hard work, innovation, the commitment of their employees and the dedication of their management team. This is what makes a Top Plant. These three facilities are tremendous examples of what can happen when an organization is committed to excellence.”

Companies submit applications to the magazine each year for consideration as a Top Plant. The magazine’s editorial staff selects the winners based on the entries received. The winners are featured in the magazine’s annual December Top Plant issue. They will receive the award on April 1 at the Plant Engineering Manufacturing Summit in Chicago.
