Robot series to be featured at IMTS

Universal Robots' third generation of the UR5 and UR10 robot arms will be features at IMTS 2014 and are designed to adapt advanced safety settings to each specific application it is used for.

Visitors to Universal Robots’ booth E-4841 at IMTS in Chicago from September 8-13, 2014, will get the opportunity to program a robot with safety features that adjust to the context it operates within. The third generation of the UR5 and UR10 robot arms also comes equipped with True Absolute Encoders that eliminate the need for re-initializing the robot, enabling automatic startup and easier integration into other machinery. With eight adjustable safety rated functions, Universal Robots’ UR5 and UR10 robot arms are designed to adapt advanced safety settings to each specific application.

To achieve a switch between normal and reduced safety mode, eight safety functions are monitored by the new patented safety system: Joint positions and speeds, TCP positions, orientation, speed and force, as well as the momentum and power of the robot. The settings can only be changed in a password protected area.

Another feature are the True Absolute Encoders, which allowing the robot to achieve faster start-up because its position is recognized upon power-up. They are not battery-driven, either.

The visual appearance of the six-jointed UR5 and UR10 robot arms, with a payload of 5 and 10 kilos respectively, remains unchanged with the third generation. The inside of the arm has some added features like 16 additional digital I/Os and the control box has a revised design and a rebuilt controller to further improve the possibilities for connecting equipment to the control boxes.

CFE Media will sponsor the 2014 Global Automation and Manufacturing Summit on Sept. 10 starting at 8:15 a.m. in Room W190 in the West Wing of McCormick Place.
