Relative humidity, tobacco smoke among targets of revised indoor air quality standard
The American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air Conditioning Engineers published this week a new standard that contains key changes impacting ventilation system design. ANSI/ASHRAE Standard 62.1-2007, Ventilation for Acceptable Indoor Air Quality, addresses the separation of environmental tobacco smoke in areas of buildings and clarifies how mechanical cooling systems are analyzed to limit space relative humidity.
“Standard 62.1 has served the building industry and the public as the most prominent standard on ventilation for indoor air quality,” said Dennis Stanke, chair of the Standard 62.1 committee. “Changes in the 2007 standard build on the improvements published in the 2004 version, providing additional guidance for designers of building ventilation systems.”
