NAM’s Cleary at Flir event
Patrick Cleary, senior vice-president of communications for the National Association of Manufacturers, offered his view of the state of manufacturing at the InfraMation 2005 conference sponsored by Flir Systems, in Las Vegas on Oct. 18. Cleary talked about the competitive state of manufacturing in the U.S. and the need for a grass-roots effort to drive policy changes at the state and federal level. Troubleshooting forums online
The Test & Measurement Tool Users Community site at www.fluke.com/community offers forums on safety, applications including power quality and harmonics, maintenance and troubleshooting, motors and drives, HVAC/indoor air quality, power distribution systems and predictive maintenance. There are also product forums including digital multimeters, clamp meters and testers, thermography, process instrument calibration, insulation resistance test, portable oscilloscopes and infrared and contact thermometers.
ISA certification testing moves online in 2006
Beginning in January 2006, ISA’s three certification exams, Certified Automation Professional, Certified Control Systems Technician and Certified Industrial Maintenance Mechanic will be offered electronically and will be available at test sites around the world.
ISA will be using the Thompson Prometric global network of testing centers (which can be viewed at www.prometric.com ), which features testing centers in hundreds of locations globally. Candidates must still meet the eligibility requirements, complete the application, and will then take the exam in a proctored environment in a testing center.
Hurricane Katrina job assistance sites
The National Association of Manufacturers has partnered with Monster.com to create a customized Website to help survivors, volunteers, public and private sector employers and volunteer organizations post and find jobs, volunteer time and provide help to communities in need. The site, hurricanerelief.monster.com , includes re-employment opportunities specifically for Katrina survivors and/or positions to help rebuild the areas devastated by the Hurricane.
