Ohio potato chip maker's new plant to be Green Building Council-certified

Shearer’s Foods manufactures kettle-cooked potato chips, but they are betting different chips that a new manufacturing facility in Massillon, OH will pay off both financially and environmentally.
The Brewster, OH-based Scharer’s said its new 150,000 sq. ft. plant will not olnly make the potato chips efficiently, but it will be the first Ohio plant to be LEED Gold Certified, according to a report in Crain’s Cleveland Business .
The Scherer’s plant will comply with thel responsibilities of our community and our environment.” The plant is targeted for a 2009 completion, and will include the company’s corporate and warehousing operations. 
Strong growth potential in the snack food market and the opportunity fro new product development were cited by Scherer’s as the reason to expand its manufacturing operations.
