Plant Engineering names first editorial Advisory Board

In an effort to keep pace with global changes in manufacturing, engineering and automation, Plant Engineering has established its first Editorial Advisory Board. The first members of the Editorial Advisory Board are:

  • Tim Dawson, IHS Technology
  • H. Landis "Lanny" Floyd
  • Shon Isenhour, Eruditio, LLC
  • Dave Reiber, Reiber Reliability
  • Larry Turner, Hannover Fairs USA

They will work with Plant Engineering content manager Bob Vavra and other members of the Plant Engineering team to review and suggest ideas for content, and provide their regular insight on issues affecting global manufacturing.

"They all bring a great deal of professional and personal knowledge about manufacturing, and their collective insights will help us guide our global audience to a better understanding of how to operate their plants better, safer, faster and more efficiently in a changing and challenging world."

The new members of the Editorial Advisory Board bring a wide variety of skills and experience to this role. Here’s a look at their background:

Tim Dawson, IHS Technology

Tim Dawson is senior director of manufacturing technology for IHS Technology. He manages a team of global analysts and has direct responsibility for the core strategy, personnel, research, analysis, and commercial planning of the division. He oversees a research portfolio covering discrete automation, process automation, capital equipment and machinery, motors and motor controls, mechatronics, switchgear and cybersecurity. He has authored many studies on a variety of electronic component and end-equipment markets and undertakes custom research and strategic consultancy projects for some of the world’s largest technology providers. Dawson also is a regular voice in the industry, presenting at industry events around the world. Tim holds a BEng (Hons) degree in Mechanical Engineering from Brunel University, London, and is located in Wellingborough, UK.

H. Landis "Lanny" Floyd

Lanny’s 45-year career with DuPont focused on electrical safety in the construction, operation and maintenance of DuPont facilities worldwide. His responsibilities included improving management systems, competency renewal, work practices, and the application of technologies critical to electrical safety performance in all DuPont operations. Floyd established Electrical Safety Group Inc. to provide expert consulting in electrical safety matters and is an adjunct professor in the graduate school of Advanced Safety Engineering and Management at the University of Alabama at Birmingham. He is an IEEE Life Fellow, a professional member of American Society of Safety Engineers, a Certified Safety Professional, a Certified Electrical Safety Compliance Professional, a Certified Maintenance & Reliability Professional, a Certified Reliability Leader and a registered professional engineer in Delaware.

Shon Isenhour, Eruditio, LLC

Isenhour specializes in adult education, strategic planning, organizational change management, leadership, asset management and reliability engineering and has lead improvement initiatives for industries such as pharmaceuticals, metals, petrochemical, paper, and power generation, among others. He has been asked to speak at numerous professional conferences on these topics in the U.S. as well as Europe, South America, Africa, and the Middle East.

Isenhour is an engineering graduate of North Carolina State University and has become an expert in the implementation of holistic reliability solutions using tools such as Total Productive Maintenance (TPM), Reliability Centered Maintenance (RCM) and Root Cause Analysis (RCA), as well as Six Sigma and Lean to drive significant bottom line results.

Isenhour is past chairman of the national board and past director of education for the Society of Maintenance and Reliability Professionals (SMRP) and is a past committee vice chairman in the area of benchmarking. He also serves on the boards of other global asset management and training and development organizations. He’s also is a Certified Maintenance and Reliability Professional (CMRP). Isenhour also is a Plant Engineering Engineer Leaders Under 40 honoree and was a speaker at the 2011 and 2014 USA Science and Engineering Festival Nifty 50.

Dave Reiber, Reiber Reliability

An independent maintenance and reliability professional at Reiber Reliability, Dave Reiber’s long career in maintenance and reliability includes several leadership positions at General Motors (GM), including acting as a skilled trans supervisor and general supervisor at two GM sites. He’s been a member of IBM’s Maximo Advisory Board for many yeras, and has been both a global and North American Maximo business lead. He’s been a sought-after speaker at numerous events, including the 2011 Manufacturing and Automation Summit produced by Plant Engineering and Control Engineering. He is certified CMRP (Certified Maintenance and Reliability Professional) from the Society of Maintenance and Reliability Professionals and certified CPMM (Certified Professional Maintenance Manager) from the Association for Facilities Engineering.

Larry Turner, Hannover Fairs USA

Larry Turner is President and CEO of Hannover Fairs USA (HFUSA), the U.S. division of Deutsche Messe that develops and manages marketing programs at Deutsche Messe events in Hannover, Germany and North America, as well as in such key emerging markets as China, India, Mexico and Turkey. Turner is responsible for numerous trade show portfolios in the North American marketplace, including industrial technology, energy, and commercial vehicle focused events. In September 2016, HFUSA is staging five industrial technology trade shows co-located with IMTS 2016 in Chicago. The events cover a complete range of global manufacturing technologies and solutions from precision manufacturing to automation, drive systems to parts and components, as well as surface treatments and lightweight construction.
