Opinion: Proposed ISA name change
On October 13, the renaming the Society from ISA – The Instrumentation, Systems and Automation Society, to International Society of Automation – will be one of the topics discussed by the ISA Council of Society Delegates. This change has been a long time coming.
The innovations that keep us moving forward — in our industries and in the ISA — have long transcended instruments and controls. Although instrumentation is a vital and necessary subset of automation, the point is, instrumentation is a subset of automation.
The name change also includes the word “International.” Both suppliers and end users fall into the “global” category. It would seem that there is a relationship between global and international. And anyone at ISA can tell you that instrumentation, automation, innovation and industry can’t — and shouldn’t — be limited by national boundaries.
