MOM systems deliver on performance, cost: study

Commenting on a recent report from the Aberdeen Group on Manufacturing Operations Management systems, officials for software developer Apriso said the report "not only confirms manufacturers achieve cost savings and performance improvements when deploying a platform-based MOM solution, but that these benefits continue to grow as their MOM solution expands."
The research suggests that manufacturers implementing a MOM solution not only achieve performance improvement, but do so at a lower cost, as new applications, functions and locations are added. According to the Aberdeen research, Best-in-Class manufactures attain 42% higher operating margins while spending 60% less. These benefits are achieved with MOM solution spread across 70% more facilities, confirming the continued advantage of an expanded deployment. Further, their share of New Product Introductions that meet time, quality and volume targets is 12% higher. The research attributes these findings to the fact that industry leaders are less likely to take a siloed, plant by plant approach to MOM.
