Lip seals: Which way?
Problem: You've just replaced a bearing and are now installing the lip seal. You don't remember the orientation of the original, and it can be installed with either side out.

Solution: The answer depends on the type of lube system. For oil, the lip should face inward along the shaft to hold in the oil. For greased bearings, the lip usually faces outward to allow the grease to purge.
