Jeffrey, Johanson to be honored at 2007 ISA gala in Houston

William Jeffrey, director of the National Institute of Standards and Technology, and K. Arvid Johanson, former chief control system engineer for Union Carbide Corporation/Bechtel Association, will be honored by ISA at its awards gala in Houston as part of October’s ISA Expo.

The Honors and Awards Gala 2007 is at the Hyatt Regency Houston, Houston, on Oct. 1. The black-tie event will honor the individuals for their contributions to and advancement of the automation industry.

Jeffrey will be honored as an honorary member for his lifetime commitment to advancing measurement science, standards and technology that promote innovation and enhance industrial competitiveness. Jeffrey was confirmed as director of NIST by the U.S. Senate July 22, 2005. Prior to his NIST appointment, Jeffrey was a senior director for homeland and national security and the assistant director for space and aeronautics at the Office of Science and Technology Policy.

K. Arvid Johanson, a chief control system engineer for Union Carbide Corporation/Bechtel Association in Houston before retiring in 2001, will be presented with the ISA Life Achievement Award for his sustained dedication to ISA. Johanson served as the first leader of the Process Industries Practices Consortium’s process control function team, beginning in 1993.

“Arvid played a key role and made significant technical and leadership contributions to the betterment of the process control community,” said Bernard C. Ebert, director, PIP.
