Flir Systems acquires Extech Instruments

Looks to expand IR thermography product offerings

Flir Systems has announced that it will acquire Extech Instruments in a merger expected to improve Flir’s position in the infrared thermography channel.

“The addition of Extech will expand FLIR’s access to key distribution channels for its emerging low-price thermography products and provide access to low-cost manufacturing in Asia,” Flir said in a statement.

Extech Instruments is a major supplier of test and measurement equipment. Jerry Blakely, Extech’s president and owner,

“This is an exciting opportunity for Extech, our customers, our distributors, and our employees,” said Blakeley. “This acquisition will create new opportunities in distribution, product development and branding, which will extend and strengthen Extech’s position in competitive markets.”
