First DECT ULE interoperability test: ‘Successful’

AVM, Dialog Semiconductor, DSP Group and RTX demonstrated interoperability on the lower MAC layer between 5 different implementations of DECT ULE.

Today (June 30th 2011), it was announced that AVM, Dialog Semiconductor, DSP Group and RTX had demonstrated interoperability on the lower MAC layer between 5 different implementations of DECT ULE; enabling all participating platforms to communicate with each other. The ultimate goal of these companies is to gain ETSI certification to create a recognized standard for DECT ULE. DECT ULE, or ‘Digital Enhanced Cordless Telecommunications Ultra Low Energy’, to give the technology its full title, is a low-power variant of ‘traditional’ DECT, aimed at developing markets such as building automation, telehealth applications, and smart metering.

Lisa Arrowsmith, Senior Analyst with IMS Research’s Connectivity Group, comments, “DECT ULE is projected to demonstrate its highest uptake within consumer-based applications. Despite being an emerging technology, DECT ULE can benefit from the maturity of ‘traditional’ DECT, in terms of consumer awareness and technical development. DECT has proven its performance and range in residential environments; and many consumers are familiar with the pairing and registration method employed by DECT, due to existing DECT residential telephony systems."
