Emerson awarded BP refinery contract

Emerson Process Management has won a substantial contract for Rosemount Analytical Continuous Emissions Monitoring (CEM) systems for use on the BP Coryton refinery site in Essex, UK.

Custom-built Emerson sample-conditioning systems and analyzer houses have been supplied to many industries for monitoring effluent stacks to ensure conformance with environmental legislation. The BP Coryton systems will be based on the Rosemount Analytical NGA2000 MLT multi component gas analyzers, which recently were awarded MCERTS approval certification. The systems will be designed and constructed in the Emerson plant at Wessling in Germany.

The Rosemount Analytical MLT gas analyzers combine unique sensors, digital signal processing and software technologies in custom configured systems that satisfy single or multi-component analysis requirements. The MLT can continuously measure up to five components in a single analyzer, using a combination of Non Dispersive Infra-Red (NDIR), Ultraviolet (NDUV) and visible spectroscopy, with thermal conductivity, electrochemical or paramagnetic oxygen sensors.

Typical components measured in Continuous Emissions Monitoring systems are carbon monoxide, carbon dioxide, oxides of nitrogen (NOx), sulfur dioxide and oxygen. The Emerson range of effluent gas analytical systems also includes FID and Chemiluminescence analyzers with MCERTS approval.

Similar Rosemount Analytical gas analyzer systems have proven world-wide performance on process gas analysis as well as for emissions monitoring, in industries that include power generation, chemicals, refineries and waste processing. The custom-built units produced at Wessling have been supplied throughout Europe and the Middle East, for use on many major recent process industry projects.
