Cooper Bussmann releases next generation of OSCAR

This release of the enhanced OSCAR 2.0 software simplifies SCCR calculations and electrical panel code compliance.

By Plant Engineering Staff May 6, 2008

The new Cooper Bussmann OSCAR Version 2.0 short-circuit current rating compliance software now allows users to save and edit electrical panel designs, offers a more intuitive process flow and graphically displays the circuit as each component is entered. The online software guides users through entering the electrical panel’s components for supply, feeder, sub-feeder, branch and tap circuits. This allows panel designers to comply quickly and accurately with 2008 NEC and UL508A Supplement SB for SCCR equipment marking requirements for assembly SCCR, which includes:

• Industrial control panels (409.110)

• Industrial machinery electrical panels [670.3(A)]

• HVAC equipment [440.4(B)].

Version 2.0 of OSCAR features simplicity in computing assembly SCCR calculations. The new Build-a-Circuit graphical interface is an intuitive program navigation tool that allows users to select from pre-loaded component templates for common circuit types, resulting in quicker design development. The My Projects feature enables users to save, edit or copy existing designs for starting new projects. Users also receive assistance from a handy pop-up dialogue box that displays device information. This new OSCAR version also identifies the SCCR “weakest link” components by highlighting the component that is limiting the SCCR rating for the assembly.

The 55,000-line-item database is now searchable by partial part number or device rating. A custom device option allows for entering and saving specialized component rating information for devices not found in the OSCAR compliance software database. When the work is completed, users can conveniently print reports and schematics for required SCCR documentation.

“This enhanced OSCAR 2.0 version is a design tool that more efficiently allows users to upgrade panel designs with ease and confidence to the desired SCCR level by combining graphic enhancements with project management features and updated UL Logic,” said Todd Lottmann, product manager at Cooper Bussmann.

The OSCAR compliance software is maintained online in order to provide users with the most up-to-date information regarding UL standards as well as an updated product search database. For more information on a one-year subscription, visit www.cooperbussmann.com/OSCAR .
