Hydraulic Fluids, A Guide to Selection, Test Methods, and Use is a concise reference to most of the fluids used in plant hydraulic and lubricating systems. A better understanding and proper care of hydraulic fluids is very important for performance as well as for economic considerations.

This book covers a broad spectrum of hydraulic fluids. For easy reference and detailed treatment, the subject is covered in nine chapters. There is a detailed treatment of mineral oils; the most extensively used hydraulic fluid. As most of the properties covered are also applicable to other lubricants, readers will find this book very useful.

A conscious effort has been made to include all relevant tests relating to hydraulic fluids. High water content fluids (HWCF) are covered in a separate chapter without being grouped with fire-resistant fluids. Many readers still consider using HWCF as a replacement for mineral oils rather than as a fire-resistant fluid.

Maintenance, an important component of any hydraulic system, often is not appreciated in practice. In the case of hydraulic fluids, it helps not only to extend the longevity of the fluid but also associated equipment. A comprehensive treatment on the maintenance of all hydraulic fluids is presented.
