AMT’s Emerging Technology Center to deliver a 3D car
IMTS partner Local Motors will build and deliver the first direct digital manufactured vehicle at IMTS 2014 at the Emerging Technology Center (ETC).
The number one "wow" factor in the Emerging Technology Center (ETC) at the 2014 IMTS Show Sept. 8-13 at Chicago’s McCormick Place is sure to be the complete construction of a 3D-printed electric car. IMTS partner Local Motors will build and deliver the first direct digital manufactured vehicle at IMTS 2014 at the ETC, which is sponsored by the Association for Manufacturing Technology, the presenting organization for IMTS.
Designed by the company’s global community, and built using the material science and advanced manufacturing techniques available at the Manufacturing Demonstration Facility at Oak Ridge National Laboratory, Local Motors will produce an electric vehicle purpose-built for the urban transportation needs of Chicago.
The team will start from scratch employing direct digital manufacturing techniques and technology integration to make the parts and assemble the vehicle. This is a real-world demonstration of achieving sustainable manufacturing by using emerging technologies, such as additive manufacturing, all integrated in a digital environment.
CFE Media will sponsor the 2014 Global Automation and Manufacturing Summit on Sept. 10 starting at 8:15 a.m. in Room W190 in the West Wing of McCormick Place.
