2010 POY Finalists: Manual Material Handling
Plant Engineering's 2010 Product of the Year finalists featured in the Manual Material Handling category.
Lifting device
The G-Force is an Intelligent Lifting Device from Gorbel that uses an industrial processor controlled servo drive system to deliver unmatched lifting precision and speed. The G-Jib integrates the G-Force into a work station jib crane. The actuator of the G-Force stays in a fixed position near the vertical truss of the crane, eliminating the deadweight that comes with moving a hoist along the rail and creating an easier to move alternative to the traditional work station jib crane/chain hoist combo. The G-Jib maximizes productivity while minimizing the risk of injury to the operator.
Wind load doors
Built on proven technology that enabled TKO doors to survive the impact of Hurricane Katrina years ago, the TKO Wind Load Door design now meets Florida’s stringent building code. The design was tested to withstand pressures of +52 and -67.5 pounds per square-foot, enabling it to remain intact through straight winds and hurricanes. Highlights of this model include a polycarbonate interior skin and a reinforced Impact-A-Track that runs the full height of the door, a standard insulated foam core, heavy-duty retractable plungers, and tight perimeter seals, creating a high-quality dock door that is suitable for any internal or external environment.
Door panel protector
The FLEX-BACK Panel by APS Resource helps eliminate bottom door panel damage by flexing upon impact and returning to its normal operating position. The FLEX-BACK panel is constructed of a high-impact polymer skin and flexible tube frame which gives the panel its flexibility and strength. This durability helps eliminate damage to bottom door panels and reduce door maintenance costs. The FLEX-BACK Panel replaces most industrial sectional bottom door panels and installs easily using standard or existing door hardware. The panel comes standard with an easy grip lifting handle for effortless operation.

Lift trucks
The Raymond Corporation’s Models 4150 and 4250 are stand-up counterbalanced lift trucks with greater visibility for the operator featuring increased maneuverability provided by agile steering, a shorter head length, and dual steer tires; and the innovative ComfortStance suspension to maximize operator comfort. The 3-wheel trucks are designed to perform right-angle stacking maneuvers in less total area. The dual-steer-wheel design allows one wheel to counter-rotate during turns, resulting in a shorter turn radius and reducing tire loading and steering friction. The trucks’ sleek design lends itself to excellent visibility, improving operation and efficiency in applications, such as loading and unloading trailers.
Loading dock seal
ENERGY GUARD provides a perimeter seal along the sides and rear hinge of loading dock levelers to block dirt, debris and insects, as well as prevent energy loss. The patent pending design seals the gaps between the dock leveler and concrete pit walls up to 9” above dock level. ENERGY GUARD stops the air flow, therefore stopping heat and energy loss, and it is factory installed on new equipment so the need for field labor is eliminated.

Transformer bag
The PIG Transformer Containment Bag is designed to be lifted by its high-capacity straps and then transported on a diamond plate truck bed without fear of rips or wear. Just drop a leaky transformer or piece of equipment into the containment bag, cinch up the duffel and hoist away with a forklift. The containment bag is UN-rated and verified to meet standards for the safe transports of PCBs.
