Weekly merger, acquisition, deal update: September 14

This week Morrissey Goodale tracked four domestic deals and three international transactions. This brings the total year-to-date deal count in the United States to 128, up 10% over the 116 domestic deals tracked through the same period in 2011. Including the U.S., the total global deal count is now 232, slightly down from the 233 global deals tracked through the same period last year.

Leading geotechnical, environmental, construction materials and facilities services firm Terracon Consultants (Olathe, KS) acquired IHI Environmental (Salt lake City, UT), a 75-person industrial hygiene, occupational safety and environmental consulting services firm to public and private sector clients across the Western U.S.  Moving forward, IHI Environmental will continue operating under the same name.  Link to details


Leading provider of environmental, health, safety, risk and social consulting services Environmental Resources Management ERM (London, UK) acquired Rescan Environmental Services (Vancouver, Canada), a 170-person leading sustainability consultancy specializing in the mining industry and featuring a wide range of environmental services that include impact assessment planning, water management, air quality management and social consulting. Rescan provides services and operates around the world, particularly in Canada and Latin America, and has offices primarily in Western and Northern Canada. Link to details


Multi-discipline engineering and design firm Pennoni Associates (Philadelphia, PA) acquired the assets of AGS (Arlington, VA), a design and engineering firm specializing in the engineering of mechanical/plumbing, electrical and fire protection systems. While Pennoni has offered MEP services to its clients in the Northeast for more than four decades, this latest acquisition will add this service offering locally to the firm's clients in the southern region. Link to details 


Multi-discipline engineering firm Civil Engineering Consultants (CEC) (San Antonio, TX) acquired 8-person engineering and surveying firm Kling Engineering and Surveying (KES) (Bryan-College Station, TX). Moving forward, Kling will do business as Kling Engineering and Surveying, a Division of Civil Engineering Consultants. Link to details  


Architecture and engineering firm Progressive AE (Grand Rapids, MI) merged with architecture and design firm Design Plus (Grand Rapids, MI) to create one of the area's largest full-service design firms specializing in architecture, engineering and interior design. The combined firm will feature more than 150 professionals and in excess of $25 million in annual revenue and will retain the Progressive AE name. Link to details 


Global multi-discipline technical consulting firm The AF Group (AF) (Stockholm, Sweden) announced it is acquiring 100% of the shares of 120-person infrastructure project management company Advansia (Oslo, Norway). Link to details  


Traffic and transportation engineering and planning consultancy ITS Engineers (Tshwane, South Africa) acquired Pendulum Consulting Engineers (Cape Town, South Africa), a firm specializing in transportation engineering and planning, non-motorized transport and public transport. Link to details

In a year when manufacturing continued to lead the economic rebound, it makes sense that plant manager bonuses rebounded. Plant Engineering’s annual Salary Survey shows both wages and bonuses rose in 2012 after a retreat the year before.

Average salary across all job titles for plant floor management rose 3.5% to $95,446, and bonus compensation jumped to $15,162, a 4.2% increase from the 2010 level and double the 2011 total, which showed a sharp drop in bonus.
