Today's Technology Center (TTC) at IMTS 2014 allows visitors to immerse themselves in technology from the aerospace, automotive and medical sectors.
Today's Technology Center (TTC) presented by GIE Media is the IMTS stop where visitors can immerse themselves in incredible technology from the aerospace, automotive and medical sectors. Visitors to the TTC during the 2014 IMTS Show, Sept. 8-13 at Chicago's McCormick Place, can expect to see:
- Two excellent representatives demonstrating advanced manufacturing in aerospace. There will be a 1/3 scale model of the Dream Chaser Space Utility Vehicle being developed between Sierra Nevada Corp (SNC) Space Exploration Systems product line and Siemens PLM Software Group. The aerospace display also spotlights aerial target drones, built by Composite Engineering, Inc., capable of flying at various altitudes and speeds that serve the needs of the U.S. Department of Defense and friendly nations around the world.
- Two all-American car dreams stand out. A 2015 Chevrolet Corvette that pushes the boundaries of materials, engine and transmission technologies is sure to excite the community. And, Stewart-Haas Racing, an exciting team in the NASCAR Sprint Cup series, is bringing the No. 41 Kurt Busch Chevrolet SS, which can reach a top speed of more than 200 mph.
- Medical device technology that can be a small as implants that are invisible to the naked eye or as large as an MRI machine, or even larger. Knee, hip, and shoulder implants; stents, pacemakers, and implantable defibrillators; bone screws, plates, and so much more will be incorporated into a clear, life-sized display showing medical manufacturing's impact on people's quality of life. Beyond the implants, medical technology can mean cochlear implants, diabetes pumps, medical tubing, bionic eyes, and prosthetics.
CFE Media will sponsor the 2014 Global Automation and Manufacturing Summit on Sept. 10 starting at 8:15 a.m. in Room W190 in the West Wing of McCormick Place.

Before the calendar turned, 2016 already had the makings of a pivotal year for manufacturing, and for the world.
There were the big events for the year, including the United States as Partner Country at Hannover Messe in April and the 2016 International Manufacturing Technology Show in Chicago in September. There's also the matter of the U.S. presidential elections in November, which promise to shape policy in manufacturing for years to come.
But the year started with global economic turmoil, as a slowdown in Chinese manufacturing triggered a worldwide stock hiccup that sent values plummeting. The continued plunge in world oil prices has resulted in a slowdown in exploration and, by extension, the manufacture of exploration equipment.
