Rotary encoder for hazardous conditions
Heidenhain's ExN 400 rotary encoders are designed for Potentially Explosive Atmospheres (ATEX) and handle shaft speeds up to 6000 rpm in a temperature range from -20 C to +60 C.
Heidenhain's ExN 400 rotary encoders are designed for Potentially Explosive Atmospheres (ATEX) like printing and the oil and gas industries. The ExN 400 encoders feature a 12mm blind hollow shaft in the new, sturdy design with increased wall thickness and are resistant to shock up to 1500 m/s2 (for 2ms) and vibration up to 100 m/s2. These IP66 ATEX encoders handle shaft speeds up to 6000 rpm in a temperature range from -20°C to +60°C.
They also feature ASIC scanning technology, available with EnDat or SSI interfaces, which allows for improved signal generation, less interpolation error, and more reliable performance in the electronics. Heidenhain ExN 400 encoders are certified for operation in Zones 1 or 21 of equipment group II (above ground applications).

Before the calendar turned, 2016 already had the makings of a pivotal year for manufacturing, and for the world.
There were the big events for the year, including the United States as Partner Country at Hannover Messe in April and the 2016 International Manufacturing Technology Show in Chicago in September. There's also the matter of the U.S. presidential elections in November, which promise to shape policy in manufacturing for years to come.
But the year started with global economic turmoil, as a slowdown in Chinese manufacturing triggered a worldwide stock hiccup that sent values plummeting. The continued plunge in world oil prices has resulted in a slowdown in exploration and, by extension, the manufacture of exploration equipment.
