Hurricane Katrina job assistance sites

The National Association of Manufacturers has partnered with Monster.com to create a customized Website to help survivors, volunteers, public and private sector employers, and volunteer organizations post and find jobs, volunteer time, and provide help to communities in need. The site, hurricanerelief.monster.com , includes re-employment opportunities specifically for Katrina survivors and/or positions to help rebuild the areas devastated by the Hurricane. "We hope this resource assists the relief and rebuilding effort in the wake of Katrina," said NAM President John Engler. "Working with the Department of Homeland Security, manufacturers are leading the way in offering supplies, and now, employment in the restoration and rebuilding effort."

Also, the U.S. Department of Labor has a job assistance Website for workers impacted by the hurricane by connecting them with employers who want to hire them. It will also support the hiring associated with critical clean-up efforts in impacted areas.

Annual Salary Survey

Before the calendar turned, 2016 already had the makings of a pivotal year for manufacturing, and for the world.

There were the big events for the year, including the United States as Partner Country at Hannover Messe in April and the 2016 International Manufacturing Technology Show in Chicago in September. There's also the matter of the U.S. presidential elections in November, which promise to shape policy in manufacturing for years to come.

But the year started with global economic turmoil, as a slowdown in Chinese manufacturing triggered a worldwide stock hiccup that sent values plummeting. The continued plunge in world oil prices has resulted in a slowdown in exploration and, by extension, the manufacture of exploration equipment.
