Precision Metalforming foundation awards $44,500 in training grants

The Precision Metalforming Association Educational Foundation, an organization established to support and develop training and education for metalforming skills and to improve the awareness of careers in metalforming, awarded a total of $44,500 in grants to three programs created to enhance the U.S. metalforming workforce: HIRED/Hennepin Technical College, WIRE-NET and BattleBots IQ.

The Precision Metalforming Association Educational Foundation, an organization established to support and develop training and education for metalforming skills and to improve the awareness of careers in metalforming, awarded a total of $44,500 in grants to three programs created to enhance the U.S. metalforming workforce: HIRED/Hennepin Technical College, WIRE-NET and BattleBots IQ.

PMAEF awarded $24,500 to the HIRED program at Hennepin Technical College in Minneapolis, MN to support the development of a course on occupational English for metalforming. The project will feature the implementation of a 72-hour instruction course for English language learners in the Metalforming Level One program at Hennepin Technical College.

PMAEF awarded $10,000 to WIRE-NET's School-to-Career program, which will be conducted in collaboration with Max Hayes High School, a vocational high school in the Cleveland, OH Public School District. This initiative provides opportunities for career path discovery in manufacturing and technology for high school students.

PMAEF also awarded $10,000 to the BattleBots IQ program, a nationwide initiative that introduces students to the metalforming industry through the innovation and engineering of robotics. A BattleBots IQ competition serves as the culmination of the robotics curriculum.

PMAEF's remaining grant budget for this grant cycle is $95,500 and the deadline to submit applications is March 1, 2006. PMAEF accepts requests for funding from organizations and initiatives whose programs and services promote, enhance and/or support the development of a metalforming workforce in the United States. Annual Salary Survey

Before the calendar turned, 2016 already had the makings of a pivotal year for manufacturing, and for the world.

There were the big events for the year, including the United States as Partner Country at Hannover Messe in April and the 2016 International Manufacturing Technology Show in Chicago in September. There's also the matter of the U.S. presidential elections in November, which promise to shape policy in manufacturing for years to come.

But the year started with global economic turmoil, as a slowdown in Chinese manufacturing triggered a worldwide stock hiccup that sent values plummeting. The continued plunge in world oil prices has resulted in a slowdown in exploration and, by extension, the manufacture of exploration equipment.
