Program recommends welding practices
Arc Works WeldSelector and WeldCalculator have been added to the company's line of software products. WeldSelector is a knowledge system that suggests suitable electrodes, American Welding Society (AWS) recommended practices, and pre/post weld heat treatments. WeldCalculator allows users to compare weld processes and to develop an effective cost-reduction plan. It can analyze multiple processes for a weld joint and calculate cost per ft, per unit, or per pound of weld.

Project management tool supports multiple file formats
Automation ProjectNet is a set of web-based tools for managing the design and deployment of complex automation projects. Users can issue requests for information, generate punch lists, track project issues and progress, manage project schedules, and plan meetings.
Software gathers data from controllers
Asset Management Solutions software gathers information from microprocessor-based instruments in a plant's control network. Loaded into a PC in the maintenance department or instrument shop, it captures data via the highway addressable remote transducer (HART) or Foundation Fieldbus communication protocols without interfering with the control system. The data are organized into a database that includes the operating parameters of every device on the network. Graphics allow maintenance personnel to examine the condition of the instruments remotely. The software expedites startups requiring device configuration and loop checkout, streamlines calibration and troubleshooting, monitors devices to provide a predictive maintenance model, automates documentation of maintenance activities, and integrates maintenance data with EAM systems.
Management system tracks tools
ToolManager has been released in SQL, Oracle, Xbase, and FoxPro versions. It provides control over the tool crib by allowing the ability to pick the appropriate tools, fixtures, and gauges and dispatches them to the appropriate place, in the best condition, and at the right time. The standard features include kitting, operations and gauge calibration management, rework tracking, purchasing, inventory control, bar coding options, user security, and reporting.
Free software includes training, emulation
VirtualTour CD-ROM features an interactive version of the company's training program. It integrates training, video, 3-D virtual reality, sound, and information about the company's sensor products. The software features a complete training program and copies of the company's FrameWork and Emulator software packages for managing and operating its sensors. Emulator allows users to continue setup work even after leaving the factory floor.

Before the calendar turned, 2016 already had the makings of a pivotal year for manufacturing, and for the world.
There were the big events for the year, including the United States as Partner Country at Hannover Messe in April and the 2016 International Manufacturing Technology Show in Chicago in September. There's also the matter of the U.S. presidential elections in November, which promise to shape policy in manufacturing for years to come.
But the year started with global economic turmoil, as a slowdown in Chinese manufacturing triggered a worldwide stock hiccup that sent values plummeting. The continued plunge in world oil prices has resulted in a slowdown in exploration and, by extension, the manufacture of exploration equipment.
