The Plant Engineering Cost Index (PECI) moved up a slight 0.1% during August, as a decline in materials prices was more than offset by sharp increases in most labor components.
The Plant Engineering Cost Index (PECI) moved up a slight 0.1% during August, as a decline in materials prices was more than offset by sharp increases in most labor components. Many more PECI material components fell than rose over the month; the only three components in the facilities group to record any price increase at all during August — plywood, lumber, and clay products — are a reflection of continued strength in construction markets and are less affected by imports from emerging markets.
