Achievements: Extensive experience in the measurement field of oil & gas and working with PLCs, RTUs, DCSs, and flow computers. Wrote the C code for Schneider Electric's new line of Modicon PLCs in regard to industry standards for flow measurement. Wrote UDF blocks for DelatV systems.  

Control Engineering Leader Under 40, class of 2010 logoNon-work hobbies: I am Canadian and I love playing hockey. I have been developing software on a contract basis for about 12 years. I enjoy doing origami when I am not programming/working/playing hockey.   

Engineering hobbies: I actually picked up developing engineering apps for iPhone/iPad in my spare time.                      

Start in controls: My father has been the biggest inspiration in my life. He worked for Imperial Oil for over 30 years as the measurement engineer specialist. He bought me my first computer book on Basic. Now that he is retired, we still contract on projects together developing software for PLCs, DCSs, and flow computers.

Annual Salary Survey

Before the calendar turned, 2016 already had the makings of a pivotal year for manufacturing, and for the world.

There were the big events for the year, including the United States as Partner Country at Hannover Messe in April and the 2016 International Manufacturing Technology Show in Chicago in September. There's also the matter of the U.S. presidential elections in November, which promise to shape policy in manufacturing for years to come.

But the year started with global economic turmoil, as a slowdown in Chinese manufacturing triggered a worldwide stock hiccup that sent values plummeting. The continued plunge in world oil prices has resulted in a slowdown in exploration and, by extension, the manufacture of exploration equipment.
