PACMotion controller serves complex motion applications
GE Fanuc Intelligent Platforms' motion controller is designed for the high-end needs of complex applications.
GE Fanuc Intelligent Platforms has unveiled PACMotion, a motion controller for the high-end needs of complex applications. Modules control up to four axes plus a master axis, and up to 10 modules can be placed in a PACSystems RX3i rack for simultaneous control of up to 40 axes. Paired with FANUC Servos, it provides a solution for machine automation. The multiprocessor PACcore architecture is bridged by virtual dual-port memory and a high-speed PCI backplane, to enable tight axis synchronization of all axes in the rack. Motion controllers with a single microprocessor for all functions will see loop update performance degrade as the CPU processes more information for more axes, and longer loop update times can introduce errors and variability in high-speed manufacturing. However, PACMotion simplifies programming by sharing a common database. Applications include packaging, assembly, woodworking, metalworking, and printing industries.
PACmotion modules control up to four axes plus a master axis.

Before the calendar turned, 2016 already had the makings of a pivotal year for manufacturing, and for the world.
There were the big events for the year, including the United States as Partner Country at Hannover Messe in April and the 2016 International Manufacturing Technology Show in Chicago in September. There's also the matter of the U.S. presidential elections in November, which promise to shape policy in manufacturing for years to come.
But the year started with global economic turmoil, as a slowdown in Chinese manufacturing triggered a worldwide stock hiccup that sent values plummeting. The continued plunge in world oil prices has resulted in a slowdown in exploration and, by extension, the manufacture of exploration equipment.
